It seems that the easiest thing would be to use two bikes in the winter and equipping one of them with the studded tires. I have one bike, so not swapping out the tires when it's dry would hurt the studs, correct?
Plan A to get me to relatives and races. Plan B for getting to work and around town. Heck yea!!! And I never thought I would enjoy commuting until I committed myself to it this year. It's just plain fun.

riding on dry streets doesn't hurt the studs. Steel studs do wear a little faster than carbide, but not fast enough to be any real concern.
